Gunman ‘targeting border agents' shot dead by police
A gunman was killed after opening fire at a US Border Patrol facility in Texas. A 27-year-old man was fatally shot after entering the Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol building near McAllen International Airport shortly before 6am on Monday, authorities said. He was reportedly armed with a rifle and wearing tactical gear, McAllen police chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters on Monday morning. Fox News reported the gunman had 'ambushed' border patrol agents. No federal agents were injured, although one McAllen police officer was struck, either by shrapnel or a bullet, and is currently in a stable condition. Mr Rodriguez identified the suspect as Ryan Louis Mosqueda. Law enforcement said they found another rifle and more ammunition. Mr Rodriguez added the man's motive is currently unknown. In a statement, a Department of Homeland Security spokesman said: 'This morning, an individual opened fire at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. 'Both border patrol agents and local police helped neutralise the shooter. 'This is an ongoing investigation led by the FBI. More information will be shared as it becomes available.' US Customs and Border Protection said in a statement shared on social media: 'Early this morning, an active shooting took place at Rio Grande Valley Sector annex. 'The suspect is deceased. The incident is still under investigation and additional information will be shared as it becomes available.'

The man was armed with a rifle and was wearing tactical gear when he ambushed Border Patrol agents. All flights at McAllen Airport have been delayed as a result of the ordeal. Active shooter killed in attempt to ambush Border Patrol agents in Texas
